Weekly Address: President Obama on Judge Sotomayor’s Experience from White House on Vimeo.

The President discusses the breadth and depth of experience held by his nominee for the Supreme Court. In the course of a life that began in a housing project in the South Bronx and brought her to the pinnacle of her profession, Judge Sonia Sotomayor accumulated more experience on the federal bench than any incoming Supreme Court Justice in the past 100 years, touching nearly every aspect of our legal system. On another topic: Healthcare, the fight that can’t be ignored
Last week, a last minute distraction caused me to miss the call from David Plouffe and President Obama to listen in on a conversation about healthcare reform. Local “Healthcare Can’t Wait” campaigns take off this June. Organizing for America (formerly the campaign arm for then candidate Obama) is asking citizens to share their healthcare stories and “stand with the President” on his healthcare reform plan. People are organizing health care kick-offs, house meetings, and summits through the OFA network. Though the “single payer” option does not appear to be on the table for the President and the stakeholders that met at the White House, I believe single payer advocates should not “boycott” organizing meetings for the “Healthcare Can’t Wait” campaign.

For a perspective about the single payer option, check out this Bill Moyers Journal site on Single-Payer: Is Nationalized Health Coverage the Way to Go.

There will be many distractions, disruptions, and scare tactics to make “no change” the change to the current healthcare system.

But this and other issues will not be a matter of what the President supports or does, but where the Congress and Senate stand. Everything depends on how many votes are in Congress and in the Senate for or against reform.
