After being out on the road for months (in the U.S. and abroad), Step Afrika! is back in DC for their annual home performance series at the Lansburgh Theatre – Harman Center for the Arts. There’s a “VIP Experience” which includes a roof-top reception prior to the show and a post-performance dessert party. For tickets, go here. I caught a mention of this on E-Notes. With so many monotheistic themes in film, music, etc, why not the Buddha. A fascinating theme for a festival. My friend Marsha of Food Muse Media hipped me on to a documentary “Dhamma Brothers” which is showing at the festival on Friday night. [It will also air on WHUT June 20 and 22 – check local listings.] In the film Buddhists bring a meditation program to a maximum security prison in the Alabama bible belt. Many of the inmates are lifers or on death row. Check out this trailer:
Academy for Educational Development Inaugurates Idea: Exchange
Like a good neighbor, AED has been upgrading their home base adding on to their Global theater, meeting center, and now Idea:Exchange, a space and forum for ideas, engagement, and dialogue (with results) on social development issues. AED’s Idea: Exchange opens June 18 with an exhibit The Way We See It: Young Photographers Examine, Define and Change Their World. The exhibit is open to the public Wed., Thurs., and Fri., from 2-5 PM. A lecture about the exhibit is scheduled for Tuesday, June 22 at 5:30 PM. AED is located at 1875 Connecticut Ave., NW.
